Is a GLP-1 right for your condition?

FDA-approval status, BMI criteria, and insurance reality for each GLP-1 across the conditions people ask about most. Pick a condition to see which drug fits and how to qualify.

GLP-1 for PCOS

No GLP-1 is FDA-approved specifically for PCOS, but they are widely prescribed off-label for the weight and insulin-resistance components, with growing trial evidence.

GLP-1 for prediabetes

GLP-1s are not FDA-approved for prediabetes, but are prescribed off-label or through a weight-management indication, and trials show they cut progression to type 2 diabetes.

GLP-1 for insulin resistance

Insulin resistance is not itself an FDA indication, but GLP-1s directly improve insulin sensitivity and are prescribed off-label or via weight-management criteria.

GLP-1 for obstructive sleep apnea

Zepbound (tirzepatide) became the first GLP-1-class drug FDA-approved for moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity (December 2024).

GLP-1 for type 2 diabetes

Ozempic and Mounjaro are FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes; Wegovy and Zepbound are the weight-management brands of the same molecules and are not diabetes-indicated.

GLP-1 for obesity

Wegovy and Zepbound are FDA-approved for chronic weight management; Ozempic and Mounjaro are used off-label for weight loss but are the diabetes brands.

GLP-1 for fatty liver disease (MASH/NAFLD)

No GLP-1 is yet FDA-approved for fatty liver disease, but semaglutide has strong MASH trial data and is prescribed off-label, often through an obesity or diabetes pathway.
