What is oral Wegovy?
Oral Wegovy is a once-daily tablet containing 25 mg of semaglutide — the same active ingredient as injectable Wegovy and Ozempic, formulated for absorption through the stomach lining. Novo Nordisk launched it in the US in January 2026 after FDA approval in late 2025.
It joins Foundayo (orforglipron) as the second oral GLP-1 on the US market for chronic weight management. Unlike Foundayo, oral Wegovy retains the fasting/water protocol that Rybelsus introduced — it's the trade-off for using the same peptide molecule as the injection.

This is the most-confused point. Both products are oral semaglutide manufactured by Novo Nordisk. The differences:

How to take oral Wegovy
The fasting protocol is non-negotiable for absorption:
- 1Take first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
- 2Swallow with no more than 4 oz (½ cup) of plain water. No coffee, juice, or sparkling water.
- 3Wait at least 30 minutes before consuming food, other drinks, or other medications.
- 4Swallow whole — do not split, crush, or chew.
Dose escalation: start at 3 mg daily for 4 weeks → 7 mg for 4 weeks → 14 mg for 4 weeks → 25 mg maintenance. Slower titration than injectable Wegovy because GI side effects are slightly more common with oral.

The OASIS-4 phase 3 trial (n=667, 64 weeks) tested oral semaglutide 25 mg vs. placebo in adults with BMI ≥30 (or ≥27 with comorbidity). Headline results:
