How do I switch from Ozempic to Wegovy?

Asked by Kenji, CA · 2026-04-18 · 112 helpful

Clinician answer

Same molecule (semaglutide), different label — the switch is mostly a paperwork exercise. Your prescriber writes a new Wegovy prescription at your current equivalent dose (Ozempic 1.0 mg → Wegovy 1.0 mg, Ozempic 2.0 mg → Wegovy 1.7 or 2.4 mg depending on tolerance). Timing: inject the new pen on your normal weekly injection day. If your insurance covers Wegovy under obesity but Ozempic under diabetes, you may need a fresh prior authorization documenting BMI ≥30 or ≥27+comorbidity.
