Injection technique

GLP-1 injection-site rotation

The three FDA-approved injection sites for weekly GLP-1 medications and a simple rotation pattern. Same logic applies to Wegovy, Ozempic, Mounjaro, Zepbound, and Saxenda.

FAQ

  • Where can I inject Wegovy, Ozempic, Mounjaro, or Zepbound?

The FDA-approved injection sites for all four are the abdomen (at least 2 inches from the navel), the front of the thigh, and the back of the upper arm. Rotate between these zones weekly.

  • How far apart should injection sites be?

Within the same zone, keep each new injection at least 2 in (5 cm) from the previous site. Between zones, you can rotate freely week to week.

  • Does the injection site change how the medication works?

No clinically meaningful absorption difference between the three FDA-approved sites. Patients usually choose by ease + comfort. Many find the abdomen the easiest to reach and the least painful.
