Interaction reference
GLP-1 receptor agonists with Magnesium
Magnesium supplements are frequently recommended to manage GLP-1-related constipation and muscle cramps. There is no harmful interaction; the combination is generally complementary.
Magnesium is commonly used to ease GLP-1 constipation and cramps — no dangerous interaction, just space it from other oral meds.
Also known as: magnesium glycinate, magnesium citrate, mag oxide
Per-GLP-1 breakdown
- Wegovysemaglutide 2.4 mgNo documented interaction
Mechanism: Magnesium does not affect GLP-1 pharmacokinetics. It can bind some oral medications (notably certain antibiotics and levothyroxine) and reduce their absorption, but does not bind injectable GLP-1s.
What to do: Magnesium glycinate or citrate in the evening can relieve GLP-1-induced constipation. Separate magnesium from levothyroxine and tetracycline/fluoroquinolone antibiotics by at least 4 hours. Excess magnesium causes diarrhea, which can compound GLP-1 GI effects — start low.
- ZepboundtirzepatideNo documented interaction
