Evidence-graded answer

Can I take GLP-1 with SSRIs or other antidepressants?

Yes. There are no clinically significant interactions between GLP-1 medications and SSRIs, SNRIs, bupropion, or most other antidepressants. Mood-related side effects of GLP-1 (mostly increased fatigue during titration) are unrelated to antidepressant interactions.

Pharmacokinetic studies show no meaningful effect of GLP-1 on SSRI absorption or metabolism, and no effect of SSRIs on GLP-1 levels.

A 2024 FDA safety review of suicidal ideation reports in semaglutide users found no causal relationship — case rates were not higher than expected for the population.

If new mood changes occur on GLP-1, evaluate as you would any new symptom: medication review, sleep, thyroid labs, and a low threshold for psychiatric consultation.
